Ann S. Ferren

Ann S. Ferren is the Provost at the American University in Bulgaria. Previously, she held the position of Vice-President for Academic Affairs from 1996 to 2001 at Radford University in Virginia. She has over 25 years of experience in administration and held a number of positions at the American University in Washington, D.C., including Associate Dean of Faculties, Director of General Education, Vice-Provost for Academic Development, and interim Provost. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Radcliffe College, the women’s college of Harvard University, her Master of Arts in Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and her Doctor of Education degree from Boston University.

Her writing on curriculum, instruction, faculty development and academic leadership has been published in journals and books including College Teaching, Journal of General Education, To Improve the Academy, Liberal Education, Leading Academic Change (edited by Ann F. Lucas), and the Handbook of the Undergraduate Curriculum (edited by Jerry G. Gaff and James L. Ratcliff). Her most recent book is Leadership through Collaboration: the Role of the Chief Academic Officer (with Wilbur Stanton, 2004).
