Elissaveta Moussakova

Elissaveta Moussakova, Prof., PhD. She holds a Master’s degree in Art Studies from the National Academy of Arts (former Nikolay Pavlovich Higher Institute of Arts), Sofia and Doctoral degree in Art Studies from the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. From 1996 to 2017 she was Archivist and Chief-Archivist in the Manuscripts and Old Printed Books Department at St. Cyril and St. Methodius National Library. From 2017 is a Professor in the Institute of Art Studies. She is visiting Professor in the National Academy of Arts.  

Her main work is in the field of manuscript illumination, palaeography and codicology of South Slavonic (in particular Bulgarian) mediaeval and late-mediaeval manuscripts. She is author of one book, author and co-author of more than 100 papers in Bulgarian and foreign editions, and co-author of five catalogues of Slavonic manuscripts. She was member of the editorial boards of  Izkustvo/Art in Bulgaria Journal and Biblioteka Journal; from 1999 is one of the editors of Scripta & e-Scripta Journal of Interdisciplinary Medieval Studies (Sofia – Institute of Literature at BAS).

Between 1996 and 2001 she has been member of the Board of Advisers and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Soros Centre for the Arts – Sofia. She is a former member of the Board of LIBER Manuscript Librarians Group/Manuscript Librarians Expert Group at CERL (2008–2014). Since 2010 E. Moussakova is member of the Board of The European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation – Restoration (Krems, Austria). In 2013 she undertook the charge of organizational secretary of the Bulgarian Memory of the World Committee. E. Moussakova was elected as the Chairperson of the NALIS Board of Directors on 16.07.2020.
