Ivan Ilchev

Rector of SU


Dr. Ivan Ilchev is a historian (Doctor – 1993, PhD – 1982 and MA – 1978). Prior to his appointment as the Rector of SU (2007) he was the Dean of the Faculty of History and a member of the Academic Council at the same university (2003–2007). There he has been teaching Early Modern and Modern History of the Balkan Peoples – first as an assistant professor (1987) and associate professor (1987–1995), then as a professor (1987). He was invited as a visiting professor and lecturer in a number of leading universities Chiba University (Japan), the Woodrow Wilson Center (Washington, USA), Maryland State University (College Park, USA) and Ohio State University (Columbus, USA).

He is the author of numerous articles, reviews and popular science film scripts as well as of the following monographs:
